Assembly Election Results

Posted by Nikhil on Tuesday, December 9, 2008

The results of the Assembly polls in 5 states have been announced and Congress Party has taken the 3-2 lead in absolute terms. But it seems Congress has failed to take 2 of the bigger states into its kitty.

Out of 5, Congress won Rajasthan, Delhi and Mizoram but lost miserably in MP and Chattisgarh. Total Lok Sabha seats from these 5 states are 27(Chattisgarh 11, Delhi 7, MP 29, Mizoram 1 and Rajasthan 25) where Congress states have 33 only. The actual impact in Lok Sabha elections remains to be seen but right now it seems Congress or BJP both cannotafford to celebrate. Each has to do something drastic to get a clear majority in 2009 General Elections, which seem to be taking place no sooner than April next year. Focus would now be on Alliances with the local parties. Wait for another hung parliament has started!
